Ingredients

Serves 4

  • 530 mL all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 120 mL water, warm
  • 7 g active dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp plain yogurt, heaped
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • oil for greasing the skillet
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • cilantro, 1 small handful

Steps

  1. Step 01

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, warm water, yeast, salt, yogurt and oil.
  2. Step 02

Once the dough starts to come together into a ball, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes, until smooth.
  3. Step 03

Put it back in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise for 30 minutes, until doubled in size.
  4. Step 04

Turn the dough out onto an oiled work surface and cut it into 8 even pieces.
  5. Step 05

Shape each piece into a tight, smooth ball, then roll it out with a rolling pin.
  6. Step 06

Scatter a little garlic and thinly sliced cilantro over one side, flip the naan and roll it out once more so they press into the dough.
  7. Step 07

Cook the naan in the hot oiled skillet (the video of the source shows two other ways). As soon as they are cooked, brush them with melted butter.
